Melita-Zebbug R. 2-2

The Amateurs recovered a two goal deficit in a match which they dictated throughout the 90 minutes.

Zebbug took the lead through an own-goal by Melita’s midfield player Julian Galea off a shot by Errol Cachia and they managed to increase their lead in the 23rd minute through a penalty given for a foul by Jonathan Mifsud on George Saliba, the latter converting from the spot.

Melita came back strongly and they reduced the arrears in the 43rd minute through Matthew Borg I following a good move by substitute Kane Micallef. Melita pressed forward with Rangers’ keeper Philip Attard being the protagonist with a string of fine saves.

They however managed to obtain a deserved equaliser in the 83rd minute with Matthew Borg I heading in from close-range. Five minutes from time the post denied Zebbug off an attempt by Mark Ciantar.

Zebbug R- Gudja U 0-0

The Rangers are still without a win after two matches as Gudja United obtained their fourth point from two matches.

Zebbug had a good start and after ten minutes George Saliba shot at goal but Glen Zammit brought off a difficult save. Then Errol Cachia hit just wide from the edge of the penalty area and on another occasion a Rodney Bugeja attempt was saved by Zammit.

In a rare attack Gudja almost broke the deadlock with a Louis Falzon shot being partially saved by Philip Attard and from the rebound Chris Grech with a rising shot hit the post.

Zebbug maintained the upper hand during the second-half and went close in the 63rd minute through Errol Cachia. Gudja lost a clear goal scoring opportunity through Carlos Scicluna.

B’Bugia SP-Mellieha 1-0

Mellieha were the best side during the first-half with Wayne Borg St.John missing a sitter after only three minutes.

They were denied by Fardell in the 15th minute off a close-range effort by Matthew Borg and on another occasion David Cauchi headed just wide from a Rueben Vella free-kick.

On 42 minutes B’Bugia replied with a clear goal scoring opportunity as Jason Cassar’s free shot brought the best out of Mellieha’s custodian David Vella.

After the restart B’Bugia broke the deadlock in the 79th minute with James Galea crossing for Aldrin Muscat to hit home from close-range.

St.Venera L-Rabat 3-0

This is a flattering result for St.Venera as it was Rabat who created the better chances throughout the 90 minutes.

After 13 minutes Rabat were close with Emanuel Muscat laying on a perfect pass for Keith Micallef whose low shot was well saved by Rapinett.

The Lightnings broke the deadlock before the interval through David Azzopardi following a square pass by Clayton Garzia.

Rabat went close on a number of occasions including an easy goal scoring opportunity wasted by Kayne Said. In the 85th minute St.Venera scored in a swift counter-attack through Mark Grech and two minutes from time Rabat’s goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi was sent off for a blatant foul on Mark Grech and from the penalty spot Clayton Garzia made no mistake.

St.Andrews-Dingli Ss 0-4

Jesmond Zammit’s team Dingli Swallows gave another good performance as they completely outclassed St.Andrews who remain bottom of the league standings.

Dingli had a good start and on 13 minutes Alex Portelli put them ahead with a low shot. Barely two minutes Dingli’s striker Roderick Farrugia pounced on a Saints’ defensive lapse to put Dingli 2-0 ahead.

In the 56th minute a mistake by a Saints defender led to a third goal for Dingli scored by Etienne Farrugia.

Dingli managed to add a further goal in the 81st minute through substitute Chris Ciappara.
