Valleta are on maximum points from four games. They were undoubtedly the better outfit showing much more better ideas than their opponents. Tarxien tried to act on the break which was not easy against the strong City midfield and rearguard.

Valletta created the first two actions. Anatholy Tischenko served Clive Caruana with a through ball in the area but Tarxien keeper Paul Camilleri foiled him with a timely sortie and a dangerous cross by Justin Camenzuli was cleared by a defender. A timely sortie by Valletta keeper Dunstan Zarb, son of ex-international player Joe, averted danger from a free-kick shot by Justin Pace, and later with another timely sortie he foiled Eric Grech after he was put through by Jesmond Scicluna.

In City’s next attack they opened the score. Dylan Grima served Tischenko with a through pass, he entered the area and after Camilleri partially saved his shot he followed the ball and headed in from close range. Three minutes before the break Bydasser Sammut served Tischenko with a through ball in the area after a run down the right flank but a good chance was lost as Tischenko handled the ball in the area.

After the restart Valletta resumed with their pressure. From a Clive Caruana cross, Camilleri partially cleared the ball and the rebound shot by Dylan Grima was cleared to safety by a defender, from a Caruana through ball, a cross by Tischenko was cleared to a corner. Valletta doubled on 57 minutes when Dylan Grima served Adrian Carabott with a through ball who scored from inside the area after beating a defender.

On 58 minutes Valleta player Neil Blundell was shown the yellow card for a foul on James Shead and hardly a minute later Neil Chircop had the same fate for a foul on the same player. Tischenko then served Sammut with a through ball, the latter crossed to Carabott in the area but a defender foiled him from concluding with a timely clearance.

On 69 minutes Tischenko was the next player to go down in the referee’s black book after fouling Mario Bajada and three minutes later he hit the same player in an off-the-ball incident.

The referee consulted assistant Franco Cachia but he took no action. Seven minutes before the end Tarxien player Edmond Vassallo was also booked for fouling Adrian Carabott.

The result speaks very clearly. There was only one team and one outcome in the game.

Mosta ‘keeper Jurgen Muscat had a very easy Saturday afternoon and he could have easily stayed at home as Zurrieq were never in the game.

Mosta were already in the driving seat after only three minutes. Christian Sant was fouled outside the area and Lyden Micallef scored with a powerful rising shot from the resultant free-kick. Encouraged by such an early lead, the Mosta boys resumed their pressure. f.

On 27 minutes the score became 2-0 when Jonathan Muscat, who was a constant headache to the Zurrieq defenders with his speed and dribbling, was tripped in the area by Adrian Briffa and Muscat sent the Grech the wrong way of the ball from the penalty spot. Two minutes before the break Mosta scored a third goal when Micallef put Muscat through who netted with a lobbed ball from close range.

The second period turned out to be a training spin for Mosta during which they added not less than seven more goals. Hardly a minute after restart Mosta scored a fourth goal through Muscat and six minutes later substitute Alex Cini scored no 5 after being put through by Muscat.

Gianluca Theuma netted a sixth goal on 48 minutes with a lobbed ball from the edge of the area. Cini scored again in the 57th minute after a Christian Sant through pass. Jonathan Muscat made it 8-0 on the hour with a lobbed ball from inside the area after beating two defenders and two minutes later he served Theuma to score no 9. Substitute Josef Cutajar closed the account by netting Mosta’s tenth goal.
