President Edward Fenech Adami met a number of voluntary organisations during a visit to Santa Lucija on Thursday evening.

He said that a democratic society needed civil society and strong voluntary organisations that, together with local councils, do sterling work for their community.

The president said voluntary organisations had an important role in a society that had become individualistic.

Tomorrow, the president and Mrs Fenech Adami will be meeting local residents and will attend Mass at 9am.
