A man was yesterday granted bail after he pleaded not guilty to trying to seriously injure a police constable and his friend when he allegedly rammed the policeman’s car in Victory Street in Senglea.

Jason Delia, 29, from Senglea, was accused of ramming PC Mark Anthony Buttigieg’s vehicle with his Citroen at 10.30pm. He was also accused of assaulting PC Buttigieg and his friend William Dingli, damaging PC Buttigieg’s car, threatening PC Buttigieg, resisting him, driving his car dangerously and negligently, breaching the peace, swearing in public and uttering obscene words. Mr Delia was also accused of relapsing.

Before magistrate Antonio Mizzi, Mr Delia pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted while Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Joe Giglio appeared for the defence.
