Two men were yesterday accused of assaulting seven policemen in Mqabba and at the Zurrieq police station on Sunday evening.
The two men, Carmel Saliba, 29, and Justin Polidano, 21, both from Kirkop, were accused of assaulting seven police constables at Triq il-Konvoj ta’ Santa Marija in Mqabba at 6.30pm on Sunday. Mr Saliba alone was further accused of accusing Police Inspector Joseph Agius that he was lying.
Mr Polidano alone was also accused of breaching a two-year conditional discharge. Both were also accused of breaching the peace.
Before magistrate Antonio Mizzi, the men pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. They were granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.
Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted while Dr Franco Debono appeared for the defence.
