Lufthansa Technik Malta will be opening its hangar doors to interested persons, especially students and their parents, between 10am and 3pm tomorrow.
This familiarisation day is part of Lufthansa Technik Malta’s efforts to create further awareness about the company and future careers.
Guided tours will be held every 30 minutes. Persons are reminded to bring their ID card with them as they will be entering a security area. Lufthansa Technik Malta’s hangar is located next to Security Gate One, past Luqa Industrial Estate.
“Technical competence, a drive to excel in whatever we do as well as stringent quality standards have made us one of the leading service providers of technical support for commercial aircraft worldwide,” said the chief executive of Lufthansa Technik Malta, Louis Giordimaina. “We are now venturing into the business of overhauling Airbus widebody aircraft, which means a significant expansion for Lufthansa Technik Malta. Once this project is inaugurated in 18 months’ time, the company will be in a position to offer Maltese youths the opportunity of embarking on a career with exciting prospects in aircraft maintenance.”
For this purpose, Lufthansa Technik Malta has carried out a series of roadshows at MCAST, Junior College, Naxxar Higher Secondary School and the Employment and Training Corporation aimed at informing students about Lufthansa Technik Malta, the expansion project, as well as career opportunities in the evolving industry of aircraft maintenance. Courses leading to both licensed and unlicensed aircraft mechanics are in fact due to start in January 2007 at MCAST.
MCAST is providing these courses for the aircraft maintenance industry in Malta. Entry requirements are O-level passes in English, Physics and Mathematics at Grade 5 or higher, or an MCAST Engineering Foundation Certificate.
The courses are conducted according to European standards as defined by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The licence requires both vocational education, consisting of theory and some practice, and training on the job, some of which could be abroad, as part of the required practical education. The road shows included information about Lufthansa Technik Malta and the experiences of certifying staff, licensed personnel and apprentices from Lufthansa Technik Malta.
“The response by students has been positive as these roadshows has given them the possibility to understand the opportunities a career in aircraft maintenance can offer them. This was also evident from the questions asked by students attending the various institutions. Both myself and my company colleagues, as well as the MCAST representative who accompanied us on these roadshows appreciated the interest shown by students and readily answered questions that were put to us by the floor,” said Ms Antoinette Caruana, HR Manager at Lufthansa Technik Malta.
Students were given a copy of the Lufthansa Technik Malta leaflet regarding career opportunities with the market leader in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of commercial aircraft, their engines and components. They were also encouraged to attend the company’s familiarisation day tomorrow.
