The comments made by opposition spokesmen Joe Brincat and Roderick Galdes on the Luqa Civic Amenity Site are aimed at hindering residents from enjoying the service, the Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry said in a press statement.

The ministry said the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) studied the viability of the project within the context of existing plans and found no objections in granting a permit to WasteServ to develop the site. The development brief, which included the civic amenity site, was discussed during public consultations that also included the Luqa local council.

The Luqa civic amenity site is one of four sites in Malta and one in Gozo where WasteServ is proposing that residents can dispose of their waste that can be recycled and reused. Material brought at the sites is separated and cleaned, the ministry said.
