A man was ordered to do 60 hours of voluntary work after he was found guilty of stealing a bag containing cash and a mobile phone from Sliema on 11 September.

Carmel Mifsud, 31, from Ta’ Giorni, was found guilty of stealing a bag belonging to Yvonne Delia in Sliema at 10.20am on 11 September.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Giovanni Grixti, heard the man’s social worker explaining that the man qualifies to be ordered to do community work instead of a prison sentence.

The man did not object and added that despite having found a job with long hours, he was still prepared to carry out this work in the community in his free time. As a result, Magistrate Grixti ordered the man to do 60 hours of community work under the supervision of a probation officer.

Police Inspectors Geoffrey Azzopardi and Romina Veneziani prosecuted.
