Young up and coming actor Jean Marc Agius was recently offered a place at the prestigious GSA Conservatoire in the UK where he is to read a three-year course in Musical Theatre (BA Hons). This course is validated by the University of Surrey, accredited by the National Council for Drama Training and approved by Trinity College, London.

Jean Marc will be training to become what is known as a “triple threat”, mastering the arts of drama, song and dance.

Besides general drama and singing, the conservatoire engages in building one’s stamina as a performer and provides its students with many different aspects of the Arts in order for them to reap the full benefits. Drama delves into text and self-exploration, as well as improvisation. The vocal department develops the speaking voice, as well as singing through individual tuition, harmony work and repertoire. Dancing includes ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary dance and body conditioning.

Furthermore, the GSA provides students with various workshops covering mime, stage combat, TV, radio and other areas of performance. It also deals with the academic aspect of education, including theory and assignments.

Jean Marc trains under the tuition of Gillian Zammit, Alison White and Denise Mulholland and has trained at Masquerade Theatre Arts School and Leicester College of Performing Arts, UK. He has acted in productions with Drama Troupe, MADC and Masquerade, as well as in shows such as Seussical, Copacabana and Thoroughly Modern Millie in the UK. He is also a teacher of drama, dance, and musical theatre at Drama Troupe.

Jean Marc will be next seen on stage in the MADC’s production of Simon Mawdsley’s Audacity to be staged at St James Cavalier, Valletta over three weekends from the 26 January to 11 February.
