Valletta Entry cameras set up

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Cameras that will read the number-plates of vehicles entering Valletta, and charge according to the time spent in the city, are already being set up at the entry points into Valletta.

One has been positioned between the Central Bank and the car park, on a pole. Another has been set up between the Castille Hotel and the offices of The Times, there is another near the Victoria Gate and yet another near the Siege Memorial Bell.

The Malta Independent on Sunday has been told that the cameras will all be in place by 20 January, when a five-week testing period begins prior to the cameras coming into operation on 1 March.

On a related theme, the Park and Ride area has now been enlarged, with the surfacing of the lower levels as well, thus allowing more and more cars to use the new facility.
