The Tourism and Culture Ministry will sponsor a young singer’s recording trip to San Francisco, “because the government believes the cultural and artistic future of our country is in our young people’s hands”, said Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.
The singer, 14-year-old Christabelle Borg, will work with experienced producers on her new musical material in San Francisco. Last June, Christabelle was chosen by coaches CeCe Sammy and John Medi, who were brought to Malta by the Malta Academy of Performing Arts, to participate in a Seth Riggs Vocal Programme in Los Angeles. During her stay in the US, Ms Borg participated in workshops held by professionals in the music industry.
Dr Zammit Dimech said that in the last few years, there has been a new cultural awakening that has been spurred on by the opening of new horizons following Malta’s accession to the EU. “Indeed, today our young
people can participate in EU programmes”, the minister added.
