Bank of Valletta’s commitment to promote local artistic talent is again evident with the publication of the BOV 2007 calendar, this year featuring works of art by thirteen Maltese women artists. All the works of art featured in this calendar form part of Bank of Valletta’s art collection which is on display at the Bank’s branches and offices.

The artists represented in the 2007 BOV Calendar are Sandra Copperstone with her painting entitled “At Rest” featured on the front cover. Twelve other artists are featured on each of the twelve months – from January to December. These are (in chronological order) Monica Spiteri, Anna Grima, Catherine Cavallo, Isabelle Borg, Jeni Caruana, Josette Caruana, Sina Farrugia, Madeleine Gera, Mary Depiro, Ruth Bianco, Nicola Vassallo, and Joanne Schembri. The works of art selected vary from oils to watercolour, acrylic, wood, ceramic and resin based on glass.

Bank of Valletta is a leading patron of arts and culture in Malta and the publication of the BOV Calendar is one of the initiatives BOV takes to promote Maltese artists. “By being supportive towards Maltese artists, BOV contributes towards promoting their work so that more and more people come to appreciate the rich artistic talent that Malta has to offer,” said Michael Galea, Head of PR, Communications and Corporate Branding at Bank of Valletta.

“Among the initiatives that Bank of Valletta undertakes to support in the areas of the development and appreciation of art in Malta are the biannual retrospective art exhibitions that honour and pay tribute to Malta’s most accomplished artists. Another way through which Bank of Valletta supports Maltese artists is by granting commissions and purchasing works of art which are then displayed at the Bank’s branches and offices, there to be appreciated by our employees, customers and the general public,” Mr Galea added. “We are pleased to have thirteen of these works of art featured in our 2007 Calendar,” he concluded.

Bank of Valletta hopes that this calendar will widen the appreciation of Maltese art and will serve as a vehicle to showcase local talent. The focus on Maltese women artists also reflects the Bank’s appreciation of women’s contribution to the local arts scene.
