Court: Man Cleared of attempting to injure another man

Malta Independent Friday, 29 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A man was cleared of attempting to injure another motorist after the court found that what happened was not the defendant’s fault.

Stefan Scotto was accused of attempting to injure motorist Paul Genovese in Triq il-Haddiem in Marsa on 12 October 2004. The court heard how Mr Genovese overtook Mr Scotto in a dangerous manner and as a result Mr Scotto sounded his horn. Mr Genovese got out of his car and started hitting Mr Scotto’s car, breaking its side mirror.

The court also heard how Mr Scotto tried to escape by reversing his car and hit Mr Genovese.

Handing down her judgement, magistrate Miriam Hayman said that if Mr Genovese was injured during this road rage incident, this was totally his fault and that Mr Scotto could not be found guilty of something he did not do. As a result, Mr Scotto was cleared of all the charges brought against him.

Dr Jason Azzopardi appeared for Mr Scotto.
