While 2006 has already been acknowledged by the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions as being a very important year for Malta and its economy, due to the fact that crucial and significant decisions had to be taken, 2007 will be even more significantly crucial, since Malta is gearing itself for the challenges ahead once the introduction of the euro in 2008 is effected, said CMTU president William Portelli in his message.

In view of this, all the social partners should push harder to enhance communication and work effectively in order to ensure as much as possible a wise and fair distribution of the EU funding allocated to Malta, together with the smooth implementation of what has actually been negotiated with the European Commission.
