A group of Maltese nationals recently attended Joseph Calleja’s acclaimed performance in the opera Rigoletto at the world-famous Grand Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
The group who attended this brilliant performance were in New York on another initiative by Renaissance Productions Ltd, Joseph Calleja’s representatives in Malta. The group was accompanied by RPL director Dr Anton Tabone.
Following the performance, a post-opera dinner was held at the celebrated Café des Artistes close to the Metropolitan itself. Joseph Calleja made an appearance at the dinner to the delight of all present. The guests included Malta’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Victor Camilleri and Mrs Camilleri, the president of the Maltese Community Centre in Astoria, New York, Anthony Curmi and Mrs Curmi, and other officials of the Maltese Community Centre.
The group also had a private audience with Edward Cardinal Egan, Bishop of New York.
Joseph Calleja, who was recently honoured with the Malta Order of Merit, will be performing eight times at the Metropolitan this season in his role of Duke. His exceptional performances have secured him a long-term contract at the Metropolitan.
