Richmond Foundation CEO Doris Gauci was recently elected president of GAMIAN – Europe.

The election took place during the general assembly held at the beginning of November in Blankenberg, Belgium. This is the fourth term for which Ms Gauci has been elected to the board, having served as vice president for the last two years.

Ms Gauci’s election to president has established a milestone as she is the first Maltese to hold such a position.

GAMIAN – Europe, established in 1998, is a pan-European, non-profit-making organisation comprised of people who suffer from mental illness, carers and family members, health care professionals and others who support or are interested in issues affecting those who suffer from mental illness. There are 86 member organisations and 11 individual members from 29 European countries.

Organisations from North America, Africa and South America are also affiliated to GAMIAN-Europe, which represents some 100,000 individuals. The aim of the organisation is to encourage and promote information, education and awareness of current knowledge in the treatment and support available for those suffering from mental illness.
