Professor Charles L. Mifsud, Head of the Department of Arts and Languages in Education at the University of Malta, has presented Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificates to Liang Haiyan and Zhang Hongbing ,who are lecturers in English at the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BICEA). Present for the ceremony were course tutors Dr Doreen Spiteri, Ms Maria Mifsud, Mr Charles Dalli and Mr Joe Grech, and Ms Lucy Hart from the International Office. The Chinese lecturers

followed an intensive three-month TEFL course at the University of Malta. So far, 16 lecturers from the Shanghai Institute for Education and six from the BICEA have followed these

courses, run by the Department of Arts and Languages in Education.

The department won the contract to run these TEFL courses despite stiff competition from universities in the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia.
