UHM Reaches agreement over hotel refurbishment

Malta Independent Saturday, 6 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) Hotels, Food and Beverage section reached an agreement with the Suncrest hotel managerial team led by Anglu Xuereb on the workers’ conditions during the refurbishment of the hotel, which will be held between January and March this year. Section secretary Lino Vassallo and Unions General Secretary Gejtu Vella negotiated on behalf of the union.

The agreement stipulates that the employees will continue to receive their full wages while the hotel will be closed for refurbishment. Employees will be asked to work on the refurbishment projects, the UHM said.

Those who opt out will receive their normal pay even though they will not be on duty.

However, they will be required to work for not more than eight hours over their weekly 40 hours once the hotel reopens for business.

The union said this agreement safeguards the interests of the Suncrest employees.
