A court yesterday heard how during questioning, a woman admitted with police that she had managed to smuggle drugs into St Michael’s Ward, the ward for inmates, at St Luke’s Hospital.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna told magistrate Lawrence Quintano how a woman told police that she had managed to supply an inmate with drugs on a number of occasions.

The woman’s name and particulars are not being published in order to protect her identity following a request by the prosecution.

She is being accused of cocaine trafficking and possession. She was allegedly caught with the drug during a routine search conducted by Corradino Correctional Facility warders at St Michael’s Ward. The woman was allegedly carrying the drug in the heel of her boots. Inside the other heel, the warders found foil and papers.

The woman told police that she used to take the drug to the ward for this particular prisoner who told her where to buy the drug from somewhere in Rabat.

The case continues.
