Malta Independent Friday, 19 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Malta Labour Party wants elderly people to play an integral role in the development of society, MLP leader Alfred Sant said yesterday.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Pensioners Association to discuss the MLP vision document on the elderly, Dr Sant said the MLP wanted to build on the good that existed today.

Elderly people who were living a satisfactory life and were participating in the community should be supported and helped to continue doing so. On the other hand, elderly who are in difficulty should be assisted through social solidarity for their quality of life to be improved, Dr Sant said.

Association vice-president Moses Azzopardi was quoted in an MLP statement said saying that the MLP document contained positive and innovative initiatives and gives importance to measures enabling elderly persons to continue living in their homes.
