WasteServ Malta condemned an act of vandalism carried out on the bring-in site in Qormi on Wednesday 31 January. The bring-in site was set on fire early in the morning and serious damage was done to public property. This same act could have easily caused further damage to private properties close by.

WasteServ first introduced these waste recycling bins to facilitate the separation of paper, plastic, metal and glass for residents. Lm591,409 were invested to place and maintain these bring-in sites all around Malta and Gozo. The European Union and the local government financed this initiative.

It is worth pointing out that the public responded enthusiastically to waste separation and the use of these facilities increased by more than 50 per cent in the last year. These figures bode well for the future of waste separation in Malta and Gozo.

WasteServ Malta is committed to continue its work, so that more waste is recycled instead of being dumped at the landfill. WasteServ will continue with its ongoing information campaign while also ensuring that legal action is taken against people who abuse these facilities.

The Qormi Police is investigating this case.
