Maltese violinist, Carmine Lauri, accompanied by pianist Simon Hester, played to a packed hall at the Cairo Opera House on 7 February. The event was organised by the Maltese Embassy in Cairo in cooperation with the Bank of Valletta Egypt Representative Office, which sponsored the event.
The expert renditions by Lauri of works by Mozart, Brahms, Debussy, Sarasate and Wieniawski elicited long applauses from a highly appreciative audience. The performance lasted for about two hours and was attended, among others, by government officials, Egyptian Bank and Investment Company executives who work within the financial services sector in Egypt together with Egyptians from various walks of life. The concert was also attended by Malta’s Ambassador in Cairo, Dr Richard Vella Laurenti; Bank of Valletta’s Egypt representative office manager, Ian Messina; as well as Malta’s Honorary Consul in Alexandria, Samir El Alaily.
During their three-day stay in Cairo, Mro Lauri and pianist Simon Hester were the guests of the Chairman of the Cairo Opera House, Abdel Moneim Kamel, and the Maltese Embassy in Cairo.
Carmine Lauri and Simon Hester accompanied by Ambassador Vella Laurenti, also had the opportunity to visit Bank of Valletta’s Egypt Representative Office where they were presented with Bank of Valletta’s sponsorship by BOV’s representative, Ian Messina.
