The Malta Labour Party has written to the chairman of the PBS editorial board to complain about the news headlines as broadcast on TVM last Sunday.
In a letter signed by media executive Mark Farrugia, the MLP referred to comments attributed to party leader Alfred Sant in the news bulletin headlines – The MLP leader washed his hands of the resignation of the National Statistics Office director general – which words were not said by Dr Sant, the MLP claimed.
The headline that the MLP found objectionable, the letter added, did not make sense when compared with the contents of the news item referring to the same activity, which was an address by Dr Sant in Vittoriosa.
The MLP said that this style of reporting “did not put the station in a good light, was not in the viewers’ interest and attributed facts that were not said by Dr Sant.”
The MLP demanded an explanation and urged PBS to see that such incidents were not repeated. A copy of the letter was sent to the Broadcasting Authority.
