Nationalist MEP David Casa yesterday visited Marsaxlokk as part of his activities marking Constituency Week. While there, he visited the hard standing facilities, opening soon, and also spoke with various fishermen.

“Thanks to EU funds, fishermen are receiving means to improve their vessels and Malta is getting money to improve facilities for the fishing industry.

The hard standing facilities project will cost e2 million, 75 per cent of which is EU money.

Thanks to Malta’s accession to the EU, we could benefit from these funds,” said Mr Casa.

The hard standing facilities will offer the facility to Maltese and Gozitan fishermen to take their vessels ashore with more ease to carry out maintenance.

Fishermen are also benefiting from direct funding from the EU. An example of this is the Lm86,000 received by one fisherman to replace his vessel.
