The latest Met Office forecast shows hot and sunny conditions every day from Tuesday through to Monday - with feel like temperatures to reach 45 degrees on several days.

Temperatures are expected to climb steadily through the week, reaching highs of 35°C on Tuesday before rising to 37°C from Thursday onwards. However, the "feels like" temperatures are forecast to be significantly higher, peaking at a sweltering 45°C on Thursday, Friday and again on Monday.

The "feels like" temperature tells you how hot or cold the outdoor air actually feels on your skin, rather than the raw air temperature shown on a standard thermometer.

Night-time temperatures will offer little relief, remaining unusually warm with overnight lows between 26°C and 28°C.

The prolonged spell of sunshine is also expected to bring very high levels of ultraviolet radiation, with the UV index remaining at 9 throughout the week.

The yellow weather warning has been upgraded by the Met Office to an orange warning, which will last until Sunday. An orange warning means that the weather event is uncommon, serious, and has a high probability of causing substantial problems.

People are advised to limit time in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, wear suncream, stay hydrated and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
