The regional library at Luqa was reopened after two years following pressure from the Labour-led local council, Malta Labour Party leader Alfred Sant said yesterday.
During a visit to the locality as part of the party’s campaign for the local elections, Dr Sant said that the library was now open also on Saturdays after the council employed a librarian.
At the same time, the council was disappointed that the space allocated for the locality library was still too small. A new Labour council would work hard to find bigger premises for the library, he said.
He said that the Luqa council had taken other initiatives in the education sector, such as the organisation of a summer school during the past three years. Literacy courses were also held.
The local council had also resurfaced 12,500 metres of roads and built a new playing field in Youth Square. More roads would be resurfaced by a Labour-led Luqa council.
Dr Sant said the Labour council had carried out 88 per cent of the work it had promised.
