Campus Brought to life during AEGEE week

A borderless Europe is what triggers AEGEE-Valletta to organize its third AEGEE-WEEK on campus from 5 - 9 March. A week of unceasing events involving the launching of AEGEE-Valletta’s 10th Year anniversary publication along with a Euro-Changeover debate, European language workshops, the commemoration of 20 years of Erasmus activities as well as the setting up of a European Village promoting unity in diversity.

In view of 10 years of achievements as a European-wide esteemed non-profit student organization, AEGEE-Valletta will be launching a publication celebrating its anniversary on Wednesday morning. The publication encompasses the organisation’s previous achievements such as being voted Second Best Antenna in the AEGEE-EUROPE Antenna Award and winning the EGEE XX Award for Best Event in 2005 as well as advocating the fact of being the successful bidder for organizing AEGEE’s bi-annual General Network Meeting known as the AGORA. In fact the launch shall also serve as a press conference to promote one of the prevalent events ever organized by a student organization.

Addressing imminent issues, concerning students, and likewise, society at large, AEGEE-Valletta shall organise a live forum relating to the Euro-Changeover with prominent speakers as MEPs, representatives from NECC and the Chamber of Commerce. Such debate, to be held on Friday morning 9 March, aims at fostering awareness amongst students about Political, European and Social Affairs as previously done on other occasions when discussing the European Constitution, Turkey & EU Maltese Politics, Irregular Immigration and Student Mobility. AEGEE-Valletta’s objective is to give the student the opportunity to voice his or her opinion while achieving a more holistic education.

Expanding international relationships, AEGEE-Week will also host a workshop dealing with Euro-African relations. The workshop is aimed to instil a sense of consciousness and tolerance in the student’s mind by making them aware of the esteemed value such relations may have. Indeed Dr. Mohamed N. El-Attug, the director of the Libyan Arab Cultural Center will be one of the special guests on Tuesday.

One Europe: One Village is intended to instil on campus the beauties of a region-free Europe. This village, hosted at the common room on campus, comprises Foreign Embassies, International Entities and Erasmus Students which shall promote their country through the setting up of stands with information about their respective European homeland. By way of extending its ideology to all, AEGEE-Valletta shall also invite Erasmus students to express their countries’ perceptions through various forms of art, all culminating to a European Festival night. This closing festivity involves variant culinary goodness from different states to enhance what is meant by being united as one Europe.

AEGEE-Valletta shall also host a European languages Workshop at the European Village. This workshop shall invite both local and international students in order to promote the diversity of the many European languages. This workshop aims to alert students of the eminence of language learning fostering intercultural understanding. Furthermore students will be enriched with the notion of lifelong language learning as a means of developing one’s personality even after University studies.

Moreover, AEGEE-Week addresses also the health and fun side of life on campus. Indeed the association will organise a Street Football tournament competition spanning on both Tuesday and Thursday morning inviting all students to participate alike, whether being a local or foreign student. Prizes will be given to the winning team.
