Representatives from the hotel industry have had a meeting with the European Employment Service (Eures), which operates within the Employment and Training Corporation.
Eures is a network operating in 31 European countries, providing information to workers and employers on the concept of mobility of workers in Europe. Eures helps those individuals who need information on living and working in another European country, as well as those employers who are interested in recruiting foreign nationals.
The representatives from the hotel industry were addressed by Robert Suban, manager of the EU Affairs Unit at the ETC, who explained the procedure undertaken by employers when recruiting workers from within the European Union and the European Economic Area countries.
The Eures services offered in Malta were further explained by Raphael Scerri, Eures manager at the ETC. Mr Scerri said Eures also offers lots of opportunities for employers. For instance, it can offer them a personalised service to access the potential workers available on the European labour market. On several occasions, foreign employers have contacted the Maltese Eures office for possible recruitment of Maltese workers. He said that the Eures portal has over 9,000 registered employers.
The participants of the seminar were also given a demonstration on the recently launched website of the Eures Malta team. Through the website,
www.euresmalta.com, employers can get all the information they need prior to employing people from outside the country.
Employers can make an appointment with a Eures adviser by contacting the local Eures team at the ETC at [email protected] or by phone on
2220-1203.
