Malta Independent Saturday, 17 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Marsascala Shop Owners Association recently presented a number of proposals to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Labour Party deputy leader Charles Mangion in two separate meetings.

The association discussed several ideas with Dr Gonzi, Urban Development and Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett and Infrastructure and Resources Minister Ninu Zammit at a meeting held on Wednesday.

The following day, the association had a meeting with Dr Mangion.

During the two meetings, the association proposed a number of suggestions about how Marsascala could complement SmartCity, not only because it was close to the area but also because it had a lot to offer regarding entertainment.

The association based its plans on four fundamental elements: environment, tourism, cultural sites, and public transport and traffic management and pointed out that many of the proposals could be developed through public-private partnerships.

Furthermore, they said, sustainable development for Marsascala would benefit residents, commercial activities and both local and foreign tourism.

The association said the meetings were cordial and very positive with both the government and opposition ready to discuss the

proposals.
