National Youth Day Opening ceremony today

Malta Independent Sunday, 18 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The ceremony marking the opening of National Youth Day and a week of national activities, will be held in Bay Street today. This event is being held thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment’s, Youth Section, the National Youth Council, the National Youth Information Centre and the Commissioner for Children which have once again teamed up to organise the main activities for this special yearly event.

The events to be held at Bay Street on Sunday between 2 and 7.30pm, will include singing, acting and dance performances, discussions, creative work spaces and information stands.

The events centre on the European Union’s campaign for diversity, human rights and participation, known as the “All Different, All Equal” campaign. The activities will also focus on the importance of including all individuals in society, especially those forming part of the six groups which the European Union considers as vulnerable and most likely to be discriminated in society.

Thus the activity seeks to pass on the message that one should not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age but promote equal opportunities to all and form an inclusive society.
