Naxxar L 0

Mosta 3

Mosta finally took sweet revenge over rivals and neighbours Naxxar, scoring three goals in the last 20 minutes of the match, to forget the first round drubbing against the Lions when Mosta suffered four goals.

This win puts Mosta in a safe mid-table position, whilst Naxxar are now in a desperate situation and only a sporting miracle can save them from going down to Division Two.

Although better fare was expected from this derby, Mosta fully deserved this victory against a lack-lustre Naxxar side that yesterday slumped to its seventh consecutive defeat.

This expected derby failed to live up to its expectations, and the first half was a real waste of time with not even one decent shot at goal.

Mosta had more of the ball but the only shot at goal was through an Ewurun header that was easily saved by Naxxar goalkeeper James Mercieca.

Mosta's most effective player was Ryan Deguara on the right flank. On 39 minutes Deguara managed to make way inside the area but was blocked by goalkeeper Mercieca.

Naxxar had their good moments but were never really dangerous in front of goal. Anizoba failed to be effective with his runs, and the Mosta defence marshalled by Daniel Theuma and Steve Borg, had an easy first half.

In the second half Bilocca passed to Ewurun who was blocked by another timely sortie by goalkeeper Mercieca. On the other end Naxxar had their first attempt at goal when Anizoba unleashed a fierce drive that was brilliantly saved by Galea.

Minutes later Mosta had a good move with Ewurun passing to Deguara who blasted over the bar from the edge of the area. On 68 minutes a Daniel Theuma freekick was saved by goalkeeper Mercieca, and from the resultant corner Steve Borg, completely unmarked inside the Lions' penalty area, headed home.

Naxxar made an immediate reaction with shots from Anizoba and Gilbert Camilleri slightly missing the target.

However nine minutes from time Mosta doubled the score when Carlos Camenzuli received a long ball from defence and beat Mercieca with a perfect grounder that went in on the far post. Naxxar's misery was complete three minutes from time when another substitute, Christian Tabone lobbed from more than 25 metres into the corner of the net with goalkeeper Mercieca out of position.

Senglea add to San Gwann's misery

San Gwann 0

Senglea A 2

Senglea defeated bottom placed San Gwann thanks to two goals by their chief marksman Chima Dozie.

This defeat puts bottom placed San Gwann in further trouble as they look set to end their adventure in this division.

Although displaying some good stuff, San Gwann were found wanting in front of goal, even though to be fair Senglea goalkeeper Attard made some spectacular saves to deny them. Maybe a draw would have been a fairer result, but even a mere point would have proved useless for their cause.

On the other hand Senglea were sharp in front of goal with Dozie doing all the difference. This win puts them back among the frontrunners even though they have played two games more than their direct rivals.

The match was very interesting and played at a fast pace. San Gwann had Mauro Brincat and Chris Cuschieri in inspiring form, but Senglea had Dozie, Thomas and Silvio Sciberras always menacing in their attacks.

The match started with Senglea producing a good move with Thomas passing to Silvio Sciberras who shot straight in the hands of the San Gwann goalkeeper.

On 13 minutes Chris Cuschieri tried his luck from the edge of the area but goalkeeper Attard dived to save. On 30 minutes Senglea were dangerous again when Chima Dozie managed to anticipate goalkeeper Spiteri but his header missed the upright.

On the other end San Gwann produced a very good move with Roberto Brincat passing to Chris Cuschieri whose grounder was brilliantly saved by Attard.

In the final minutes San Gwann's Adrian Gatt almost committed an own goal in an attempt to clear, and on the stroke of half time Senglea took the lead, when Jeremy Gatt headed towards the unmarked Chima Dozie who headed in from close range.

San Gwann surged forward in the second half and Mauro Brincat went close with a well taken freekick that was saved by Attard. However on 54 minutes Senglea went close again when Dozie's close range shot was somehow blocked by goalkeeper Attard. Four minutes Stajic had a good shot on the turn blocked by Attard.

Dozie penetrated on the left but Silvio Sciberras failed to connect in front of goal. On 73 minutes San Gwann went close again with a Stajic dipper, but George Attard, in the Senglea goal, denied Stajic with another brilliant save. Attard was again called in action by a Vella Critien attempt.

Ten minutes from time Silvio Sciberras passed to Dozie who slotted the ball underneath Spiteri to put the issue beyond doubt.
