Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A Malta UNESCO Youth Association has been formed aiming to work in the field of developing culture, education, science and communication and spreading the ideas of UNESCO among young people and adults in Malta and internationally through the organisation of programmes and projects which include training courses, seminars and exchanges on a national and international level and through the publishing of diverse literature.

Following the approval of its establishment by the National Commission for UNESCO in Malta, the Malta UNESCO Youth Association (MUYA) has held an extraordinary general meeting and elected its first committee. The members are: Anson D. Aquilina (president), Sarah A. Suda (secretary general), Istivan Spiteri (treasurer), and Maurizio Cappitta and Joanna Bonnici.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, was founded in 1945 and is today operating in 192 countries. It works to create the conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect for shared values and the dignity of each civilisation and culture.

The work of MUYA is already under way through the association’s first project focusing on cultural diversity and interfaith and intercultural dialogue. More information about MUYA and its projects and activities can be obtained by sending an email to [email protected].
