Valletta Creative Forum To discuss arts, heritage and tourism

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The third session of the Valletta Creative Forum entitled “Arts, Heritage and Tourism” will be held on 31 March. The forum will examine possible ways forward and discuss collaborative measures between the arts, heritage and tourism sectors.

The forum will be addressed by Noemi Satta, a cultural marketing consultant from Milan and Xavier Bailley, director of heritage and historical monuments of Amiens-Métropole and president of the national association of heritage animators. British performer Aidan Dooley and St James Cavalier music director, Sarah Spiteri will be presenting case studies on innovative arts and heritage projects.

Dooley has worked for many years with Spectrum Theatre Projects, developing various performance pieces and historical characters for all the national museums in England, including the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. He will also be performing his solo show Tom Crean at St James Cavalier on 30 and 31 March. Crean’s story is a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of the Antarctic; his 36-mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades has been described by Antarctic historians as “the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration.”

During the forum, Sarah Spiteri will be presenting a case study based on the music events which are currently being held in historical venues. One of these projects is Intimate Letters, a series of concerts in auberges and palaces round Malta linking the intimate letters of famous composers with their music. St James Cavalier is also offering all forum participants tickets for Intimate Letters at an exclusive price of Lm3 for the Leos Janacek concert at Auberge D’Italie cellars on Thursday 29 March at 8pm.

In order to involve all forum participants in the think-tank, working groups during each forum will propose recommendations for further development. The three working groups are called Animating Museums: Sharing Culture with each other and the world; Tourism feeds the Arts, the Arts feed Tourism; Making our heritage contemporary through the arts.

The forum is organised by St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity and is supported by the British Council, the French Embassy, the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, the Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

The forum which is free of charge will be held from 9am to 3.30pm and includes lunch.

Registration can be made by sending an email to [email protected] indicating the participant’s preferred working group by Wednesday 28 March.
