The Malta Labour Party sent its best wishes to all the young people of Malta and Gozo yesterday, on the occasion of Youth Day.
In a statement, MPs Carmelo Abela and Justyne Caruana said that young people were the future and it was the government’s duty to invest in them for a better society in the future.
“The government is obliged to ensure that the future of young people is solid and safe, where they can fulfil their aspirations and realise their full potential,” said the MPs in a joint statement.
They said that the current scenario was making life difficult for everyone, but especially for young people, due to the lack of employment opportunities. The two MPs said there was also a problem in the fact that university graduates were not finding career opportunities.
The government was breaking the promises it had made before the last general election, the statement said, and was not tackling the problem of rising unemployment.
In addition, said the MPs, the government was displaying apathy to the situation in the way that it continued to pretend that everything was running smoothly.
The MPs said the MLP was always at the forefront when it came to sounding its concerns and taking an active part in life.
“We take this opportunity to express solidarity with all those who find themselves in difficulty and we promise that the MLP will give continuous and serious support to this sector of society,” said the two MPs.
