Malta Independent Saturday, 24 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Institute of Tourism Studies will be hosting the first Comenius European Food Festival between 27 and 30 March.

The festival brings together participants from five countries: Norway, Holland, France, Hungary and Malta, all engaged in a three-year Comenius project to learn about healthy diets based on old and contemporary recipes and ingredients used in

different countries.

Other food festivals will be organised in Holland and Hungary during the course of the project. Students will be cooking traditional, healthy food and will eventually create a recipe book containing all the recipes they have discovered.

By means of this EU-funded project, students will be discovering the English language as they engage in writing diaries and interview relatives about old eating habits.

During the five-day festival, students and their teachers will be hosting a food exhibition and an international dinner featuring traditional recipes from participating countries. The international dinner will be held on Thursday at ITS in Pembroke.

Foreign students will also be given the opportunity to learn about Malta’s history and culture by means of a culture programme that has been organised by ITS Tour Guiding students and their tutors.
