Malta Independent Sunday, 25 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Alex Grech runs a strategy and e-business consultancy and does a bit of writing and theatre to keep his feet on the ground. He trained at Mtada and won Best Actor at MADC’s One Act Play Competition. His theatre credits include Malvolio in Twelfth Night, the Porter in

Macbeth, Lars in Dinner and Felix in The Odd Couple. He is playing Henri in the MADC’s production of Yazmina Reza’s Life x 3 with

performances at the Manoel Theatre on 30 and 31 March and 1 April.

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

45. Leo. 31 July 1961.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

I’m working on it.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Reading stories to my son, Jacob. Not having to worry about what I’m doing in 10 years’ time.

What is your favourite occupation?

Writing. Reading. Eating pasta. Drinking a good red wine. Watching AC Milan win a game, for a change.

Significant others?

Liz and Jacob. A remarkably patient woman and a very funny guy aged four-and-a-half years.

What is your greatest fear?

The usual. Losing people I love. I watched my mother go slowly. And she was the age I am now. That kind of

resonates.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Knowing when to be around and when to stay away.

How would you like to die?

Like? Like to die? If I have to, very old, in perfect health, having received assurances that I’m about to come back with my family intact and as a young Steve Jobs with better looks.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Wine, holidays and digital cameras.

What is your greatest regret?

Spending my growing-up years in Malta in the 1970s and early 1980s. Any other age would have done. Except the Great Siege, I guess.

What is your most treasured

possession?

My books and my iPod. I like my house too. It would be nice to be able to transport it to some other greener place without people shooting birds out of the sky.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

I wish I could play guitar and paint. I would like to leave an illustrated book for my son.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Cowardice.

Where would you like to live?

If I were 23, I would live in New York City. These days, somewhere in Tuscany would do just fine.

What is your most marked

characteristic?

Impatience. I irritate a lot of people I find irritating.

Who are your heroes / heroines in real life?

People who save lives. Futurists like Patrick Dixon. Anyone who plays for AC Milan.

What is it that you most dislike?

Political animals. People who think the world revolves around them.

What is your motto?

Being in touch with fire and passion is essential for the soul of a human being.
