Roberto Cavalli To design Olivia’s outfit

Malta Independent Sunday, 25 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

In a contest like Eurovision, where as much thought goes into styling and stage show as vocal performance, choice of costume is paramount to create the right impression and the wrong choice can ruin the package.

It seems that the Maltese team is taking this element extremely seriously this year, as work continues secretly behind the scenes on Olivia Lewis’ outfit for Helsinki, escmalta.com reported.

Ditching the Fabrizio brown of 2006, it seems that the colours chosen for the 2007 Eurovision are most probably a very Swedish blue and yellow.

The website reported that the dress itself will probably come from the Roberto Cavalli collection, as did Olivia’s dress in the Maltese final – this rumour is backed up by stories of Olivia and her camp entering the building of a “renowned fashion stylist” last week. It was also confirmed that the dress will be of the same cut and style as the Maltasong frock.

In an unusual twist, escmalta also hinted that fans may have the final say on what the singer wears for her semi-final performance in Finland. The decision could be made by visitors to her website from a choice of two.

Meanwhile the esctoday.com Big Poll kicked off with her riding high in second position as fan fave for success.

As the first 1000 votes in the 2007 BigPoll were registered, esctoday reported the early predictions that the semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest belongs to... Turkey and Malta with Turkey just one point ahead of Malta

In what at this stage is by far the closest BigPoll ever seen, the first thousand predictions suggest that the 10 qualifiers from the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest semi final are:

1 Turkey

2 Malta

3 Belarus

4 Serbia

5 Cyprus

6 FYR Macedonia

7 Slovenia

8 Switzerland

9 Norway

10 Bulgaria

Those just behind the top 10 are Andorra, Georgia, Hungary, Estonia and Moldova. Of the most hotly tipped countries to pass to the final before polls opened, Denmark is currently in 16th place, Latvia in 18th and Israel in 25th position! According to the first results, Croatia, Montenegro and Albania will be in the last three positions.
