MIM, MUBE Agreement on financial services

Malta Independent Saturday, 31 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Malta Institute of Management (MIM) and the Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE) have reached an agreement with the aim of furthering the development of the banking and financial sectors in Malta.

The organisations agreed on various principles that aim at ensuring continuous growth in the financial services sector and at continuous professional development within the sector.

MUBE president William Portelli said: “The uniqueness of this agreement is that it brings onto the same wave length the academics and the industry. In fact, MUBE shall appoint a representative on MIM academic council which deals with the financial services sector.”

He said the memorandum in itself was an instrument to ensure against duplicating resources in Malta and to invite other organisations to collaborate with both the Malta Institute of Management and the Malta Union of Bank Employees. A fundamental clause within the memorandum is the invitation of individual employers and employers’ organisations to ensure the meeting of the established common goals. The memorandum also aims at inviting other training organisations to team up with MUBE and MIM in order to ensure the common objectives of having an even more highly professional financial services work force.

MUBE and MIM will engage in regular sector training needs analyses in order to ensure that the financial services sector is continuously equipped with the skills and capabilities required.

This includes also investment, promotion and awareness of innovation management in the sector.

This will ensure that the work force is all the more ready to meet the challenges they are faced with in today’s highly dynamic and competitive market. The issue of mobility and transferability will also be partially addressed in this manner.

The financial services sector is a sector that the MIM has at heart and in which the institute has invested substantially. Thanks to this investment both MUBE and MIM members will benefit from access to internationally renowned educational programmes.

The first activity as a result of this agreement shall be on 24 May when a seminar on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery in the Financial Services Sector will be held.
