The General Workers’ Union yesterday denied it had not submitted its proposals on anomalies in the fringe bene-fits system for bank employees and insisted that it had had a meeting with parliamentary secretary Tonio Fenech to discuss the matter.

In a statement, the union said that Mr Fenech was twisting facts when he said that he had never met with the GWU to discuss these proposals.

The GWU said that during this meeting, the two parties had discussed the shares option and home loans issue and a proposal on childcare. It said its proposal on the shares option was that this would be tax exempt.

The union said that when the matter of the shares option was raised, Mr Fenech informed the GWU that he had not been informed about it and would get back to them after consulting the Inland Revenue Department.
