Easter breaks, celebrations and partying, especially those targeting young people, have become the norm during this time of year, Agenzija Sedqa said yesterday, urging everyone to use common sense and not to resort to alcohol or any other substance abuse while taking part in such events.
Enjoyment during the Easter break is obviously encouraged, but not at the expense of health or at the risk of mishaps occurring because of irresponsible behaviour, said Sedqa, the national agency against alcohol and drug abuse.
Sedqa noted that accidents and problems originating from excessive alcohol consumption and binge-drinking can be avoided. “To stay away from unfortunate circumstances, the agency stresses the fact that one needs to be sensible and use good judgement by knowing their limit, and to steer clear of driving any vehicles when under the influence of any amount of alcohol.
“During this time, Sedqa will be continuing the implementation of its regular information and education campaigns against excessive alcohol consumption and binge-drinking to various audiences. Particularly, radio public service announcements are being broadcast on various stations, while various other initiatives for young people are being organised by the primary prevention section within Sedqa, which emphasise the idea of a healthy substance-free lifestyle.”
