The annual music marathon at BJ’s in Paceville, promoting live music while at the same time raising money for charity, will kick off on Monday.

Organiser Philip Fenech said a number of musicians have confirmed their participation at the marathon, which aims to highlight the importance of preserving live music, and at the same time help charity.

The marathon has always served to bring people together in an appreciation of the value of music and concern for others, and thus this year it has the additional message of encouraging people to channel their energy in a constructive and creative manner.

Over the 17 years that this marathon has been held, the activity has raised more than Lm100,000 for various causes.

For the last few years, the marathon has been collecting for WOW – Wishing Others Well, the social arm of the Millennium Chapel run by Fr Hilary.

“The sterling work that Fr Hilary has been doing for people is commendable and deserves our backing,”

said Mr Fenech.

The marathon is a non-stop live music event starting at 5pm on Easter Monday (9 April) and will continue day and night without a break for a whole week. Both veteran as well as up and coming musicians will be playing at BJ’s.

Mr Fenech said that anyone wishing to play in the marathon, whether as a veteran musician, beginner or even if just as a hobby, may contact him on 9949-3534 or call in at BJ’s nightclub, Ball Street, Paceville any night after 10pm.

All types of music are welcome, including rock, jazz, blues, folk, soul and classical; the only condition is that it be live.

On 12, 13 and 14 April, various musicians will be playing live music in front of Burger King in Valletta while the marathon in Paceville continues.

Donations can be made by sending a blank SMS on 5061-8061 for a Lm2 donation, 5061-8915 for a Lm3 donation and 5061-9204 for a Lm5 donation. Both go mobile and Vodafone customers can use these numbers.
