MoodSwing, a small a cappella group of women barbershop singers, will be performing at the next lunchtime concert, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, in the Music Room at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta on Wednesday 11 April.

The performance starts at 12.30pm and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Tickets at Lm1 for adults, and 50c each for children under 12 and persons over 60, can be purchased from the booking office at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, or on telephone 2122-3200 (opening hours are from 10am to 9pm daily).

The MoodSwing singers will perform barbershop music, an American art form that features songs with understandable lyrics and melodies a cappella. This style of singing is featured in many movie musicals such as The Music Man and In the Good Old Summertime. Among others, the all-female group will sing some familiar tunes that have been arranged especially for barbershop, such as Cabaret, Let There Be Peace on Earth, When I Fall In Love, Tuxedo Junction, and That’s What Friends Are For.

MoodSwing started singing together almost four years ago, when Andrea Dixon, a British expatriate who had recently moved to Malta, brought her music and her love for this style of singing from her barbershop singers’ group in Dubai. MoodSwing, now made up of 12 singers, began training in vocal techniques under the direction of Alice Horne.

They have performed in several concerts and shows, and participated in the International Choir Festival in November 2006.
