Malta’s leading sailor Benji Borg led Malta’s contingent in the Europa Cup in Andora, Italy, earlier this week. The Europa Cup is a ranking event so sailors move from one country to another taking part in Europa Cups and eventually each time getting ranking positions.
Local sailors are in a handicap as they do not take part in each and every Europa Cup race.
Europa Cup is an ISAF Grade 2 event with 169 competitors from Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland, Russia, Croatia, Ukraine, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Algeria, Poland, Albania, Hungary , San Marino and Malta.
The Europa Cup in Andora is made up of eight races and Malta’s contingent consisted of Malta Young Sailors Club members Benji Borg, Jan Rossi and Christophe Podesta’ and Birzebbugia Sailing Club member Simon Aquilina.
Last year Jan Rossi, Peter Valentino , Zak Borg and Benji Borg took part in the Europa Cup venture in Carnoc, France.
At the same time Maya Podesta’ was taking part in the Eurolymp in Barcelona, Spain, as well as at the Princess Sofia Cup in Palma.
