Anthony Hammett presented a nursing bed known as a Hammett Bed to the San Miguel Special School in Pembroke during a swimming activity organised by the school, to show how the swimming pool could be used for hydrotherapy as well as a means to access the curriculum.

Education Minister Louis Galea thanked Anthony Hammett on behalf of the school and said that donations such as these continued to equip the special schools for the benefit and comfort of the students who attend.

San Miguel Special School is equipped with a large pool which is used by students for hydrotherapy and is also being used by the school to provide literacy sessions, where activities that are started in the classroom continue in the pool. Minister Galea and Mr Hammett were shown how students enjoyed participating in the story Pig in the Pond, in Movement to Music and in Handa’s Dance, while parents were informed about what goes on in the pool area.

Mr Hammett explained that the bath or bed has powerful-to-mild hydro-massaging jets, with directional nozzle flow which relax and heal muscle pain. Soothing aromatic oils may be added to the water. The Hammett Bed will be very beneficial for the students at San Miguel School, with therapeutic and relaxation values for the students.

Mr Hammett has also generously donated three nursing beds to the Arka Foundation in Gozo, two to Dar tal-Providenza, one to Razzett tal-Hbiberija, one to a disabled home in Denmark, one to a hospital in Dubai and another to St Catherine Home in Attard.
