Despite being Easter Saturday, workers from the Ministry of Tourism, worked very hard yesterday to clean the burnt oil thrown by vandals in the rocky area known as The White Rocks near Wignacourt Tower in St Paul’s Bay.

The exercise was carried with great caution so as not to damage the Roman bath remains on site.

On behalf of St Paul’s Bay local council, Mayor Paul Bugeja praised the initiative of the beach cleaners in the Ministry of Tourism as well as the Oil Pollution Mobile Rescue for a job well done.

This rocky beach has, once again, regained its original natural state.

The mayor thanked Minister Francis Zammit Dimech as well as Mr Dalmas and Mr Mallia who were in charge of the operation.

Mr Bugeja also thanked the various council contractors, particularly Adam Bugeja and the various people who gave a helping hand.

In a span of less than a year, this area had been vandalised twice. Some months ago, the bring-in-sites in the vicinity were thrown into the sea. Vandal acts are to be condemned, said the council in a statement: they do no good to anyone.
