A new council for the Malta Printing Industry Association (MPIA) was elected at the association’s 2007 Annual General Meeting, held at the end of last month.

The aim of the association is to enhance the sector’s competitiveness by encouraging collaboration and joint initiatives among printing establishments in Malta.

The outgoing council was thanked for the sterling work it had carried out during its period in office, as well as for providing a sound framework on which the new council will continue to build for the future well-being of the printing industry.

The MPIA is a member of Intergraf, the European federation of associations for the printing industry. The association, whose registered office is at the KBIC Centre, Corradino Industrial Estate, is the official representative of the printing industry in Malta.

Its membership consists of enterprises engaged in the printing trade in Malta – a trade defined as the process of applying ink to paper or board.

Other members of the association come from enterprises mainly engaged in providing reprographic services to the printing industry, provided such enterprises have a licence to carry out printing activities in Malta.

Other enterprises having a connection with, or whose activities are deemed beneficial to, the printing industry in Malta are also eligible for associate membership.

The newly elected council is composed of Margaret Buhagiar as president, Peter Mifsud as secretary and John Mifsud as treasurer. Other council members include Peter Galea, Carmel Bonnici, Massimo Schiavone and Neville Cassar.
