A man was slightly injured yesterday morning when a crane he was operating in Borg Olivier Street in Sliema toppled over.
The developers, AX Group said the accident occurred when one of the outriggers, or supporting legs, of the construction crane gave way, the crane tilted backwards and its jib came to rest on the parapet wall of a block of apartments in Stella Maris Street.
The incident took place at around 7.30am when the man was operating the crane at a construction site. The crane operator suffered slight injuries.
The developers said there was no structural damage and no need for residents to evacuate their building. Repair work on the parapet wall was due to be completed yesterday, they added, and other finishing works, such as painting would be done over the coming three days.
Duty Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera was informed about the case and appointed several court experts to assist her with the magisterial inquiry.
The police are investigating.
