Mediterranean Food And Drink Festival

Malta Independent Friday, 13 April 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Mediterranean Food and Drink Festival this year will be held at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC), Ta’ Qali, between 25-27 May, both days included. It will be organised by the MFCC and the Malta Culinary Association (MCA).

MCA is responsible for the organisation of the Chef Challenge, comprising a culinary competition for professional chefs and culinary enthusiasts. The competition will be a main attraction and all the food will be typically Mediterranean, meaning originating from Mediterranean countries.

All professional chefs, as a team or as individuals, and culinary enthusiasts may compete in the challenge. Entries will be judged by a team of international Master Chefs: E.D. Avery, R. Naylor and M. Oliver, led by Ken G. Fraser, who will preside over the entire competition.

New in this year’s edition is the “Open Parade des Chefs Championship”, a challenging competition right at the heart of the event at Ta’ Qali. It comprises 10 chef teams, who in a unique, purpose-built restaurant will provide a three-course meal for up to 50 attendees for Lm7 per person.

Besides the international jury, visitors can also taste and judge for themselves as the team of chefs bring creativity and originality to this unusual eating-out experience.
