Two men yesterday were charged with threatening and attempting to assault two police constables.

Johan Mifsud, 29, from Zebbug and Anthony Borg, 21, from Marsa, pleaded not guilty to attempting to assault police constables K.G. Sultana and J. Zahra on Tuesday morning in St Luke’s Square in Pietà.

They were also charged with threatening the police and disobeying their orders, breaching the peace, using indecent language, refusing to provide the police with their particulars and loitering around the square for no good reason.

Mr Mifsud alone was also charged with inciting a sizeable group of people to commit an offence.

The men were denied bail and remanded in custody.

Magistrate Michael Mallia presided over the court.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted and Dr Reno Borg appeared for the accused.
