Pedestrian critical, motorcyclist hospitalised after two separate accident

A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in an accident on Friday evening, police said.

The accident happened in Triq Joe Scibberras in Ħamrun, and preliminary investigations showed that a 69-year-old woman who lives in Pieta was hit by a Volkswagen Golf which was being driven by a 23-year-old man from Syria.

The woman was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital and certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Tanya Sammut is leading an inquiry into the accident.

Earlier in the evening, at 5pm in Vjal ir-Riħan in San Ġwann, there was a crash between a Daihatsu Sirion being driven by a 44-year-old man from San Ġwann and an Aprilia motorcycle being ridden by a 32-year-old man living in Birkirkara.

The motorcyclist was taken to Mater Dei Hospital and was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police said that investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
